“We understand how frustrating it can be for gamers to see overpriced listings for presale hardware. Speaking to Eurogamer, eBay has elaborated that the console being put on the website is in violation of their presale policy, and has taken efforts to completely scrub the site of any listing for the product. It seems that eBay is putting a stop to scalping, although it might not be for long.
However, if you were were to look up the Steam Deck on the website right now, you wouldn’t find anything.
Many have claimed to see the handheld PC on the marketplace for upwards of 1500 dollars, and some for even more. However, with the reservations now closed, and hundreds of players waiting patiently for their Steam Decks to arrive in December or later, it seems that some scalpers may have slipped through the cracks, as the Steam Deck is selling on eBay for exorbitant amounts of cash. The company is going out of their way to let accounts who have purchased a product on the Steam Storefront before June 2021 have first pickings for the first 2 days that the reservations have been out. However, Valve has been quick to make sure that the console is getting into the hands of the people who want the console more than the people who are looking to sell the console for a profit. This is happening with the PS5, Xbox Series X, the Switch OLED, and now, the Steam Deck. The only catch to this business exchange is that the scalpers are selling the console for a higher price than what the console is retailed for. It seems that every time a new console is being released, scalper have been flooding the preorders to get their hands on it, hoping to sell the console to buyers who want it but are unable to find one in the wild.
